SUBWAY CUP

2019

With Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC and Dayton Dutch Lions FC playing in the same Conference from 2016 to 2019, both clubs came upwith the idea to not only play eachother 3 or 4 times in the season for the points in the USL standings, but to add a Cup element to the games. The “Five dollar footlong derby” was in reference to the statue between Cincinnati and Dayton, and the Cup games were always heated ones. with both teams playing within one hour from each other. and also sometimes battling for the same local talent to join their team.

If you asked the Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC Super Mega Ultras Supporters Group in 2019 what team they want to beat the most, it was Dayton Dutch Lions FC. It’s not just geography or the fact that they shared the Dutch Lions FC name, but in 2018 when Dayton Dutch Lions FC won the Great Lakes Division and crowned themselves Conference Champions, they celebrated on Cincinnati’s home field. That celebration left a bad taste in the mouths of the fans and players in attendance. Several of those players were still with the club and had not forgotten that moment.

On June 21, 2023 Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC beat Dayton Dutch Lions FC with 1-0, giving them some revenge and a chance to celebrate winning the Subway Cup at their home ground.
