Weekly review

May 5, 2018 – Dayton Dutch Lions FC’s Men’s team is starting their pre-season this week. Several player announcements are still scheduled pending clearance and League approval. Earlier this week Head Coach Dan Griest was interviewed on the team’s expectations. The club also announced the try-out dates for their Youth Academy. The try-out dates for the U9-U12 and U18/19 teams are scheduled for May 29 and May 31, the try-out dates for the U13-U17 teams are scheduled for June 4, 5 and 6. Dutch Lions FC NPSL (Houston) played a pre-season scrimmage vs Houston FC (USL PDL) and won 3-0. On Saturday May 6 they play another pre-season game at home vs Oilers FC. The club will organize the third edition of their Super Summer League (SSL) on their top notch facility with two turf fields. The Super Summer League provides a great opportunity for teams and clubs to play competitive soccer during the summer months. Last year more than 20 teams joined the league, resulting in over 25 games per weekend in six different age groups. Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC is also starting their pre-season this week. The coming days we will post an interview with Head Coach Paul Nicholson about his expectations on the season. Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC had their first days of Youth Academy try-outs last week with a record number of participants. Last weekend the U8 won the Adidas Spring Classic Cup with a 4-2 win over GPS West in the final. The club also organized their annual Gala for the Youth Academy players and parents last night with everyone dressed up. With close to 250 people attending several awards on the season were handed out. Davy Hendriks was voted Coach of the Year. He is also the new Assistant Coach for the WPSL Women’s team. Their pre-season also starts this Monday. The WPSL-team also announced the signing of Vesna Veltrop, who played for Dutch Premier League Club and FGCDL FC partner ADO Den Haag this season. Before ADO she played for AFC Ajax and the Dutch National Team U15, U16, U17 and U19. New York Dutch Lions FC is hoping to announce their 2018 games and events this week. FC Cincinnati (4-1-2) continued building their strong “away” reputation by beating both Ottowa Fury (3-0) and Indy Eleven (3-2). The team of Head Coach Alan Koch is now 4-0-1 in away games. Especially Kenny Walker’s strike from distance vs Ottowa (1-0) is incredible! The two wins on the road put the team in 2nd position in the Eastern Conference. They now play Atlanta United 2 (1-2-3, 13th place) at home tonight at 7pm at Nippert Stadium.
